Significance of Journey and Illustrations

Mark Catesby is known as the first European naturalist to explore the New World. He used his eye for nature and artistic ability to create a foundation of knowledge of fauna and flora that would be used for decades to come. His Natural History has been updated and republished multiple times in order to increase the scientific knowledge of these species. Below are samples of Mark Catesby's water color illustrations.
